We begin at the beginning.

We trust our gut as a parent and usually tend to be right.  Something was different with my usually bright, carefree 13 year old daughter. She seemed more anxious than usual. Never came out of her room. She told us she'd get dizzy spells when going from sitting/laying down to standing, and sometimes she complained her vision would get blurry.  While being examined, her pediatrician inquired about her eating habits, and noted she fell off her growth curve for weight. Becca had always been in the 90th percentile. Becca had slimmed down, but we attributed it to a recent growth spurt as she surpassed me on height by about 3 inches! "I know what this is" her Dr. replied after ruling out signs of  POTS or apparent heart abnormalities-"you have an eating disorder". "Noooo" I heard my daughter cry out, while I thought to myself "How the hell did I miss this? I'm a therapist!"
